About
Impetus
The Memphis area New Thought cadre of ministers serving churches and special ministries in the area recently met for lunch, conversation and
prayer. When a long time concern for the well being, safety and healthy future for the city of Memphis (and surrounding metropolitan area) was expressed by one of the attendees, the entire group was deeply moved to address this through prayer, and, moving their feet into concerted action.
We are all in this together-- we love our city, our smaller neighborhoods, our churches, our life styles and we know that we each make a difference. The idea of prayer is not new; we know. Delightfully we learned within the same week that many groups have been praying for this beloved city. The name, Memphis, which is named after Memphis, Egypt means -- City of good abode."
Concern
In the Fifties and Sixties Memphis was proudly espousing it had been surveyed and considered one of the cleanest, healthiest places to live.
It can be, it should be again, Burdened by our having observed the ever-growing polarization-- especially since the assassination of Rev Martin Luther King in 1968-- and the erosion of both individual and community values, the corruption in many layers of city government, a crime rate that placed Memphis No.2 in the nation for aggravated assaults, robberies, all of which has in turn taken a toll on the safety of citizenry, on property values and on the morale of the populace - we listened. The issue has culminated in this movement to focus our energies consciously and prayerfully from now until the end of Memphis in May, 2009. We are either part of the problem! Or we are part of the solution. Nothing changes without our taking ourselves in hand, doing our own inventory and remembering that our job individually is not to set things rightly but to see things rightly." Therein lies the solution.
Perspective
Yes! An ambitious project you might say? Of course-- but with you pitching in we will make a difference. In that small group meeting a few weeks ago we set our intention to go out two by two by two--just as Jesus directed the Disciples to do--intensifying our intention to be walking prayer, to be the Light wherever we were led, to leave a light anchor or light prints (footsteps) and to visualize the city as healthy, thriving, safe, prosperous, an oasis of love. In short, experiencing a revival of pride and prosperity. .
Solution
It was out of the awareness created by this candor and concern the "We Love Memphis" project came to be. We see ourselves and you if you
feel as we do, doing the work quietly, lovingly without fanfare, inviting others to join in. What are you being asked to do? Just this. Pray an affirmative prayer for Memphis every day, morning noon and night, and especially at 9 PM on Monday nights. Wherever we are, we are joined together by our thought of being so joined.
Affirmative prayer is different than a begging bowl prayer. It is the "yes" action of the mind; the act of affirming, the declaring of Truth. In short it is
'seeing' how we want it to be, how it is as it manifests. Imagination is the scissors of the mind. We see Memphis vibrant, wholly alive, enlivened with
jobs, new industry, old companies retooled, with crime reduced to minimal, to people trusting once more in the city's leadership, in the city's services, neighborhood clean-up being celebrated (already begun) and pride rightfully restored in the city which stands for good abode. Wherever you go,
"See" this (as in The Secret dvd made popular of recent time) --and see the Light cascading, fully all around, the Light of God, the Light of the Creative Intelligence, see yourself filled with light, love and peace. Be the love you are. No darkness can ever fully hide the Light
